T40 Track Busway READY Retractable Cord Reel
See the T40 retractable cord reel in use
At this anonymous development facility, several T40 power connections use retractable cord reels alongside fixed PowerDrops. This customer demonstration shows a cord being pulled down and guided back at normal operating speed.
Historical application footage, not mounting instructions. Current cord-reel assemblies require the supporting busway to use threaded rod larger than 1/4 in. nominal diameter; 1/4-20 rod is not permitted. Follow the selected assembly documents.
T40 120V / 1-pole connection
A 120V circuit uses one phase conductor and neutral, with an equipment-grounding path. The fitting connects to the conductors; it does not convert the supply voltage.
T40 example: phase A + neutral. Ground path is not shown. This family diagram illustrates conductor selection. Use the reel assembly documents for its fitted connection.

The T40 Track Busway READY retractable cord reel combines a reel with a compatible breakered tap-off enclosure. It is engineered for overhead power access from T40 busway. Its calibrated spring provides controlled pull-down and smooth return, allowing the cord to be brought into the work area and stowed when the task is finished.
Retractable power for laboratories and workbenches
A retractable power drop is useful where a bench or workstation needs an electrical connection for part of the day, rather than a cord hanging at working height all the time. Plan reel locations around the tasks performed at each station, including equipment setup, testing and changes between activities.
How should you plan the cord reach?
Measure the route from the proposed reel position to the furthest intended connection point. Include the vertical drop, horizontal reach and a clear path around benches and equipment. The stated cord length should not be treated as the available horizontal reach from the busway.
Plan for repeated pull-down use
Reel placement needs to account for how people will reach the connector and guide the cord back after use. Check clearance throughout that movement, including nearby lights, services and equipment. Review the busway support requirement in the selected specifications and the assembly instructions before finalizing the mounting arrangement.
